Bert McKoy
Bert McKoy is a songwriter, and performer raised on the south side of Belize City, in St. Martin de Porres near Lake Independence.

Music found him early. Raised by a single parent, he grew up copying down lyrics and reciting them for fun, mimicking the icons who shaped him: Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, Buju Banton, Beanie Man. What started as a kid's imitation game became the foundation for his own songwriting, musical compositions, and a body of work built around one idea: making the world a better place.

He played semi-professional ball before he made the decision to leave the south side behind and migrate to California for a better life. He took his first job in construction and worked all day, every day, building the same discipline that would carry him through every chapter after.
​
That work ethic eventually found its way to social media, where Bert built a following by doing what came naturally: celebrating his culture. He quotes old Belizean sayings, spins the silly side of everyday life, and shows up in his signature old-man shirt and old-man hat, making people laugh with a jovial sense of humor that's entirely his own.
​
When he was asked to portray Reynold for Song of Hummingbird Highway, he jumped at the chance to try acting through voice-over — a new kind of performance, and one he embraced immediately. Now, after completing the audiobook recording, he's fully invested in Reynold's character, proud to lend his voice to a story he calls a cultural legacy.

Everything shifted when he became a father. His son's birth reframed his whole outlook, brighter, clearer, more focused. From that day forward, he's made it his mission to maximize every day he's given. He credits his son with saving his life by pointing him toward a new direction.
